Making Strides: Staff of ‘Cheers’ Walks For Hunger

On Sunday, May 4th, over 40,000 people walked the streets of Boston and its suburbs for the 40th Annual Walk for Hunger. Despite the inclement weather, over $3.8 million was raised for emergency programs across Massachusetts.

The staff of Cheers contributed greatly to this cause.

“We raised over $1,425 and we are still collecting money!” reported Cheers event manager Desirae Mix. Mix was just one part of a fearless team that included staff members Marisa Luciano, Terri Cannady, Peggy and Andy MacDonald and Corrie Jane Poitras.

According to Mix, “speed-walker” Terri Cannady finished the walk in 4 hours! “The MacDonalds left at mile 5 because Andy had work at Cheers that night, but Marisa, Corrie and I finished in 7.5 hours,” explained Mix.

The fearless team kept themselves going through the sometimes unrelenting rain, occasionally stopping for snacks and playing games.

At the finish line, they were treated to ice cream from Brighams, a welcome prize for their hard work.

“Next year, I’ll start earlier than February and hopefully get more people involved,” Mix said. “I think we can raise $2000!”

Congratulations to all who participated!
